The informal settlement of Majengo in Nairobi, Kenya is plagued by persistent violence, including terrorism and gang-related activities, leading to the loss of many young lives and exacerbating social and gender inequalities. The lack of safe spaces and limited educational resources further compound the challenges faced by the community. This environment exposes children and youths to various risks, such as early sexual activity, sexual violence, and the detrimental effects of poverty. These adversities hinder educational opportunities and compromise the overall well-being of families in the community.

As part of our organization's peace building program, Jenga Lives Community Based Organization is dedicated to creating and fostering a peaceful environment in the informal settlement of Majengo, Nairobi, Kenya. We aim to counter violent extremism, advocate for peace, and promote gender equity through various initiatives and strategies.
1. Media:
Under the peace building program, we have the project Kijee TV and radio, which serves as a platform to present news on violent extremism. Through this media project, we aim to raise awareness about the consequences of violent extremism and its impact on the community. Additionally, we offer free filmmaking skills training to youth, providing them with opportunities to express their thoughts and feelings through creative outlets.
2. Youth Engagement:
To provide an alternative to violent extremism, we focus on engaging and empowering young people in Majengo. We organize events and opportunities where they can showcase their talents and skills. By offering them a safe space to develop their abilities in areas such as theater, music, and dance, we encourage youth to channel their energy and passion towards creative pursuits, diverting their attention away from violent activities.
3. Community Peace Dialogues:
We facilitate community peace dialogues, gathering individuals from different backgrounds and age groups to discuss issues related to peace and conflict resolution. Through these dialogues, we aim to build understanding, empathy, and mutual respect among community members. We utilize various models, such as Imago Dialogues, Giraffe Language, and the Theater of the Oppressed, to encourage open and constructive conversations about peace and countering terrorism.
4. Mediation:
We provide a safe space for mediation, where conflicts between community members are addressed and resolved. Trained mediators from our organization help facilitate dialogue and negotiations, ensuring that conflicts are addressed peacefully and effectively. By offering this service, we contribute to reducing tensions and promoting peaceful resolutions in Majengo.
5. Radio Dramas for Peace and Countering Terrorism:
Through our radio dramas, we aim to promote messages of peace and provide educational content on countering terrorism. By broadcasting stories that resonate with the community, we encourage reflection, dialogue, and critical thinking about peace and the impact of violent extremism. Our radio dramas play a crucial role in raising awareness and fostering a culture of peace in Majengo.
